Peptide Advertising in the UK and Australia: Platform Policies in 2026

Many peptide brands that have established successful US paid media operations look at the UK and Australia as natural expansion markets. But the regulatory environment differs from the US, and platform policies vary by jurisdiction. Expanding without understanding these differences leads to account flags and wasted spend.

UK Regulatory Context

In the UK, peptides fall under MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) oversight when marketed with health claims. Research-use positioning is similarly permissible to the US context. The ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) regulates advertising claims independently of platform policy — a compliant Google ad can still attract an ASA complaint if the claim is misleading.

Google applies the Restricted Drug Term Certification requirement to UK campaigns. Without certification, UK campaigns targeting pharmaceutical-adjacent terms will have limited reach.

Australian Regulatory Context

Australia's TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration) has one of the stricter frameworks for therapeutic goods advertising in the English-speaking world. Meta applies particularly aggressive enforcement to Australian health and supplement advertising following regulatory pressure from the TGA.

Recommended Approach for UK and Australia Expansion

Start with UK before Australia. The UK market is larger, the regulatory environment is more similar to the US, and platform enforcement is more predictable. Run UK campaigns as geo-targeted extensions of your US campaign structure with localised copy.

For Australia: consult with a TGA-aware legal advisor before running any paid media. The risk of a TGA complaint is real and the consequences are disproportionate for smaller brands.
